Global Facial Recognition Market Set for Significant Growth by 2031, Driven by AI and Security Innovations

A top mobile executive at Samsung said the firm plans to work with Alphabet’s Google to join the fast-growing market for augmented reality glasses.

In an interview with TM Roh, of Samsung, where he revealed the partnership announcement made in December on the Project Moohan headset, they are now working together on augmented reality glasses.

Roh, head of Samsung’s Mobile Experience division, did not share further details about the glasses but mentioned they would eventually be launched as part of the company’s initiative to co-create the Android XR operating system.
On their market arrival, Roh said the firms “will strive to get the quality and readiness they want as fast as they can.”

Creating truly authentic augmented reality spectacles, or what was once deemed a phenomenon of science fiction, proved to be exceedingly complicated for the technological industry.
Both Google and Apple, along with Meta Platforms, have attempted to create a set of lightweight spectacles capable of projecting data and graphics onto real scenes but were unable to make much progress due to challenges regarding cost as well as engineering issues.

Samsung, the biggest firm in South Korea based in Suwon and a top smartphone maker worldwide, is looking for fresh paths to expand its consumer area.

Last year, it widened its range of health and wearables by launching the Galaxy Ring which is aimed at tracking users' sleep as well as monitoring their stress levels and daily activity.

The Android XR, presented as a collaboration between Samsung and Google to work as "one team," aims to create a unified operating system for every type of wearable headsets.

Those augmented reality glasses from the pair would compete with forthcoming from Meta, and perhaps Apple, which has its plans under a shroud of secrecy.

Meta is set to launch AR glasses dubbed Artemis in 2027 according to a report by Bloomberg News on Tuesday.

This is a mixed-reality device for augmented reality and virtual reality which is called Project Moohan.

It uses external cameras to create an augmented reality effect but primarily it is a virtual reality device designed to immerse the user completely.

Roh said Samsung is still working on finalizing the release date and pricing for that product which is anticipated to launch this year but the pricing will not solely based on production costs. A major factor in launching the headset, will be, as Roh noted, obtaining sufficient content for it Samsung and Google are collaborating with external partners to create original content.

Apple has had a tough time offering enough applications and amusement for its Vision Pro, which costs $3,500 (R64,795), to make it an indispensable purchase.
